Discuss your initial thoughts on Amir, our narrator, so far
in the story. Describe him. In addition, how do you feel about how he views his
father and how he views/treats Hassan?
In my opinion, Amir is a good person at heart. Many people believe that he isn't very nice but really all he wants in life is his fathers approval. His father can not really relate to Amir so Amir tries so hard to get his approval. Amir treats Hassan kind of poorly when he makes him take the blame for things that Amir has done. I believe Amir is also jealous of Hassan because him and Baba connect more than him.
I think that Amir is a good person on the inside. He wants to treat Hassan as if is not a hazzara. He tries to play with Hassan everyday, but only when there is no one else to play with. Amir strives to get his father's love and attention, and he is jealous at how close baba and Hassan are; how baba always wants Amir to invite Hassan when ever they go to do something.
I feel like Amir is selfish and rude towards Hassan. Amir lets Hassan take the blame for all the trouble that they get into. I also feel that Amir is a bit jealous in the novel because all he wants is his fathers approval of him. Baba has a close relationship with Hassan and respects him. This really irritates Amir and makes him jealous of Hassan.
Amir is a great kid but he is have a hard time hangout with his dad. He thinks way his dad dose not give him the time of day is because when his mom was having him she past way and now he things that it is his own flat. because his dad is very busy with business that he dose not do thing with him. I fell bad for him that he cant have a good time with his father. I would not know what to do if I did not have my father in my life I would be a different person if I did not have him.
I think Amir is a good guy. He is just like every other kid that will make mistakes and get jealous. I personally feel bad for him because his dad is not that nice to him. I think it would not be fun to have a dad that you know is disappointed in almost everything that you do. And with Hassan Amir is just jealous, again that is just a normal thing for a kid. Because when you are a kid jealousy is always there. So overall I think Amir is a good normal kid just like everyone else.

Not having that relationship with his father causes Amir to do whatever he can to get Hassan to leave his home.
I think Amir really represents the average child. In that, he longs for paternal attention and affection due to the loss of his mother and feels that somehow he is to blame. At some point nearly every child feels they are to blame for something that can be directed at no one. Amir also seems to be the scrawny child that gets picked on for no real reason. I don’t believe Amir is cowardice; he simply was frightened by such a cruel deed, and in no way did he act wrong. In that kind of situation everyone will experience the either fight or flight feeling and tend to respond in their best interest. I don’t think he truly hates his father, but as a child he cannot understand how to be what his father wanted in a son. Relationships take effort from both people, and Baba was not putting the effort into trying to be a part of Amir’s life. In their country, Hassan’s people were always treated like servants. Not because they really are lesser, but because there was a standing hierarchy that placed the Hassan’s people below Amir’s. Amir is unsure how to treat Hassan all the time because he wants to be friends, but also doesn’t want to be ridiculed by his peers. I believe he only treated Hassan the way he did, to please society.
I think that Amir is kind of mean to Hassan because Amir blames Hassan for a lot of the trouble that he gets in to. I think that Amir is jealous of Hassan because he has a very close relationship with Baba. Amir just wants to get his fathers approval because his father is different. Amir kind of treats Hassan as the last choice when they play together.
To me at the beginning of the story Amir and Hassan seem like brother's, always playing together and Amir used to read to Hassan stories, even though Hassan is a hazzara. He was very nice to Hassan and would treat him with respect. But Amir got jealous for the way his dad would treat Hassan. Baba would buy Hassan expensive gifts for his birthday and Amir thought his dad wished his son was Hassan. But after what happened in the alley with Assef, I lost a lot of respect for Amir because he treated Hassan like family but when it came down to it, he just cowardly ran away without stepping in and protecting Hassan.
Personally, I think Amir is a good person who makes some poor choices. When Hassan was being attacked, Amir ran away instead of helping him. He also has jealousy towards Hassan because he was blessed with the athleticism that Amir's father wanted Amir to have. However, Amir has good intentions for Hassan and they have been friends for a very long time. The one thing Amir's really wants is for his father to be proud of him and without the athleticism, Amir believes that will be very hard to achieve.
Amir is a great kid but he blames himself for to many thing. He also struggles with standing up for himself and others. Baba is frustrated with him because he wants him to follow in his footsteps. He treats Hassan differently in different situations. Amir also blames himself for him moms death and says that is why his father hates him but Raheem Khan has a sit down talk with him to straighten it up.
I think Amir is not a bad person. Amir seems like a person that gets jealous easily. He is jealous of Hassan for different reasons. Amir views his father like he is an important person he focuses on trying to get his fathers approval. Amir treats Hassan like he is not a Hazzara. Amir wants to get along with him and spend time with him.
In addition to what Amir did in chapter 7, I believe he is a regular person. By regular person I mean one that makes mistakes just like us and is still deep down thoughtful and nice. Although, I feel, Amir had a lot, if not everything, handed to him. Amir did a lot of things wrong like leaving Hassan as he was getting assaulted and abused. I believe Amir only left because he follows in his footsteps of only caring and putting himself before others, but the only thing Amir is looking for is his father's time to notice Amir and the achievements he has had and be proud of him.
I think Amir is a good kid but just has a lot of growing up to do yet. When he didn't stick up for Hassan I thought he was taking the coward way out because Hassan protects him every time. Amir views his father as someone who is always judging him and he trys to make Baba proud, but it always seems like Hassan is the one that is making Baba proud because he fits Baba's footsteps better. Amir also thinks his dad doesn't like him because he thinks he killed his mom.
Amir is, in my thoughts, a good kid. He sticks up for people, and takes the blame. But, he has some growing up to do. I personally thought that he would have Hassans back because Amir always had his back no matter what. When Amir left I think he is only looking for some way to make his father proud of him
My opinion I believe that Amir is a good person and he knows what he wants in life. He wants his father to be proud of him just like Hassan's father is proud of him. Amir is jealous of Hassan's relationship with his father. He should of stood up for his friend even in bad times. Hassan needed Amir when he went to get the kite. Hassan should of been behind him to stand up for him.

I think Amir is a kid who struggles with who he is. I believe this because he doesn't feel connected with his father and he struggles to find that connection. Also, he struggles with his friendship with Hassan. He struggles with that because it's not exactly socially acceptable to be friends with Hassan because he's a Hazara. Another reason he struggles with his friendship with Hassan is because Hassan is the type of child Amirs father wishes Amir was and that causes a lot of jealousy and at times anger. I also think Amir struggles with his place in society. He doesn't need all the fancy things he has and he doesn't like the thought of not being friends with Hassan. He wants to be the person his father wants him to be but in reality he doesn't know what his father wants and it results in a lot of internal conflict.
I feel like Amir is a spoiled little brat. He is incapable of feeling sorry for other people, especially his best friend. He wants to always have something better than Hassan and gets mad when his father treats them fair. Amir is also a coward. He wouldn't stick up for Hassan or try to help him in any way. Instead he'd rather sit in his high chair and complain about how bad he has it.
In my opinion Amir is nice, but does not treat Hassan like he should. Amir tries to make his father proud of him so he does everything he can to make him happy. Amir wants a relationship like Hassan and Ali. Amir should have stood up for Hassan during the bad incident Hassan had.
I feel that Amir is kind- hearted and he means well because he just wants his fathers approval and just wants his father to give him attention and shows that he cares but at the same time I feel like if Amir was a good friend he would have done something like go get help or beat the guy up to prevent the action that was done to Hassan.
I feel like Amir is a good person he just didn't know what to do when Hassan got assaulted because I think every person in that situation would do the same thing because you wouldn't want your life at risk also. he needs to learn how to stick up for his friends and people he cares about. Amir still has a lot of growing up to do.
